Inaugural Recipients Announced
Last night marked a very special milestone for the Ryan J. Caulfield Memorial Scholarship Foundation as we awarded our first-ever scholarships.
Ryan was a proud Natick High School graduate whose compassion, kindness, and love for animals touched countless lives. Whether helping a friend in need or caring for an animal, Ryan approached everything with empathy, loyalty, and a genuine desire to make the world a little better.
This year, the scholarship committee had the privilege of reviewing applications from outstanding students pursuing careers in animal care and related fields. After careful consideration, we selected two exceptional Natick High School graduates whose passion for animals, commitment to service, strong work ethic, and compassion for others truly reflected the values Ryan lived every day.
One recipient distinguished herself through extensive volunteer work, hands-on animal care experience, academic excellence, and a demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. The other recipient impressed the committee through years of animal care, farm work, leadership, mentorship, community involvement, and unwavering dedication to both animals and people.
What stood out most was not simply their accomplishments, but the sincerity, empathy, and sense of purpose reflected in their applications. Their stories reminded us of the qualities that made Ryan so special and gave us confidence that his legacy will continue through the next generation of animal advocates and caregivers.
Congratulations to our inaugural scholarship recipients. We are honored to support your journeys and cannot wait to see the impact you will make in the years ahead.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Foundation, donated, volunteered, and helped make this first year possible and memorable. Because of you, Ryan's kindness continues to create opportunities for others.
Generosity
I want to take a moment to share the extraordinary generosity of this community. Today marks one year since Ryan left us, and in that time, the outpouring of love and support has been nothing short of remarkable. Through your kindness, you have helped support both Forever Home Rescue, where Ryan adopted his beloved Pancho, and the Ryan J. Caulfield Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
I recently received a note from the director of Forever Home Rescue New England, who shared this incredibly touching update:
We have decided to use these donations to save the life of a two-year-old dog in need of cardiac surgery. I am thinking Ryan would approve. Without this support, the dog would have had to be put down. With surgery, they are expected to live a normal lifespan.
I can almost hear Ryan’s joy knowing that someone’s beloved fur baby gets to stay with their family for good.
In the coming months, the Foundation’s Scholarship Selection Committee will review applications and award the first Ryan J. Caulfield Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will support students pursuing education in animal sciences, including those seeking to become veterinary technicians, a profession Ryan loved and where he found his true passion.
While this week has brought many emotions, the love and generosity shown by this community is a powerful reminder that Ryan’s legacy is very much alive. It continues through compassion, kindness, and the meaningful impact being made in his name. I imagine he is beaming, knowing that the love that surrounded him is still doing so much good.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Board of Trustees in expressing our deepest gratitude.
